Guarantee the coverage and maximum quality of 5G communications in environments such as football stadiums, concert halls, shopping centers or any other interior space. This is the main objective of Wavecombe, a European project led by the Institute of Telecommunications and Multimedia Applications of the Universitat Politècnica de València.
Currently, Wi-Fi networks and mobile networks still have two handicaps that make the user experience undesirable: the limitation in the available bandwidth and the interference that originates in environments with a high density of users.
In addition, this project will study techniques to reduce the negative impact users can have.
To prevent such blockages, researchers at the UPV will study new techniques for antenna reorientation and optimal access point deployment planning. In addition, new methods will be developed to modernize existing buildings and design new buildings that offer an efficient wireless connection.
The Wavecombe project will last until the end of 2021 and includes measurements and pilot tests in shopping centers, airports and conference romos in Belgium, Spain and the United Kingdom.
